Whenever we walk long distances and the kids kind of start to lose it, we play a game that's a twist on I spy and it actually works every time. Here's an example - I say "run to something red", "now hop to something with 2 wheels", "skip to something that rhymes with bee", "shuffle to an A", "twirl to a bench",... whatever you come up with that you can both see in your near distance. they patiently wait for the next instruction, at the object they found, with a proud smile... works like a charm
